HISTORY

Christianity is the religion followed by the natives of Haiti and most of the natives are Roman Catholics. Vodou, an ancient religion is still practiced in many parts of Haiti. The Pic Macaya National Park is located in the massif de la Hotte Mountain Range in the southern peninsula of Haiti. This particular park protects the natural habitats of several animals, native to the country.


Wildlife in Haiti is mainly subjugated by Caimans and flamingos. Some of the other animals found in Haiti are Hispaniolan Trogon (Temnotrogon roseigaster), White-winged Ground Warbler (Xenoligea montana) and Grey-crowned Palm Tanager (Phaenicophilus poliocephalus). Formerly, there were many forests in Haiti. Most of the perplexed charactered animals could be located in these forests. However, with the clearing of forests for generating farms and woods for charcoal, Haiti has lost many of its valuable native trees. Wildlife in Haiti is nowadays spotted only in the remaining pine forests and semi desert areas.
